Has Anyone experience in measurement of Water / oily water from drain of the Crude Oil storage tanks? Local mechanical readout is enough. No need for advanced measurement system with signal routed to remote station. The drain from the tank is gravity flow to the treatment pit.

The challenges as I see are:
- No power or utility available in tank farm
- Low pressure available on upstream side ( max. liquid height is 12 meters. Min height is 3 meters )
- Water is expected to be contaminated with crude oil ( <20 ppm ). But occasionally oil could also pass through the drain system for short duration. Sp. gr of oil is 0.8 with pour point of 10deg Cen.

Is there any make model available with total mechanical system / Portable power pack for hazardous zone.

Any help will be greatly appriciated

You could try something like this. They're used in heavily in aviation fueling systems where the amount of fuel issued to a refueler truck or aircraft is measured out. They can be mechanical only although they're sometimes tied into hydraulically operated control valves or hydraulic/electric deadman switches. The low pressure in your system may be an issue depending on the flow rate you're trying to achieve.

Thanks for the link.

I see that Viscosity is important parameter for correct selection among others. Could you advise what will be the effect on meter performance if high viscosity is selected ( for slightly viscous Oil but it is used for water metering ) This is because some oil may also pass through the meter at start of water drain. My concern is that it should not clog the meter

I would go for a battery powered magnetic flow meter myself. Used widely for waste water systems.

Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

Thanks Guys
I have zeroed on TechnipFMC ( formerly Smith ) Rotary Wane Meter model T-40 with mechanical register.

Thanks all for helpful input
