Flow & Pressure requirement for Hydrant

Hi everyone, Can anyone help me know the flow & pressure requirement of hydrant. Any reference from IBC, IFC, NFPA would be great help.

how much for a sprinkler system

cdafd, The building needs 300gpm @ 5bar for sprinkler system. The available city water pressure on site is 2.5 bar.

The GPM I am getting from Appendix B of IFC is 3250gpm which I feel is too high. Also the pressure demand for Sprinkler (only for 1 building out of 7) is 5 bar. Selecting a pump for 3250gpm @ 5Bar will be okay?

Check for any allowances and reductions you may get from Appendix B. When a pump is supplying hydrants and sprinklers, typically the pump capacity is governed by the fire flow and pump pressure is governed by the sprinklers.

You asked about fire flow in an earlier post. Are you sizing the pump for fire flow or sprinkler demand?

Also, 300 GPM seems very, very low for a warehouse but maybe you are dealing with low heat release rate commodities.

TravisMack, There is no reduction possible in fire flow as almost all buildings except one are non sprinklered. Yes I have selected the pump with fire flow gpm and Sprinkler demand pressure. But one of the manufactures told me that 5 bar pressure is too low for hydrants, It has to be minimum 8 Bar. Thats the reason I am confused now.
Stokeyfpe, I am sizing the pump for both Fire flow & Sprinkler demand. 300 gpm is only sprinkler demand where as fire flow demand is 3250 gpm from IFC Appendix B.

IFC Appnedix B gives only the fireflow. Any Code reference of standard for the minimum pressure required by Hydrant would be great help. Thanks.

It is not a good idea to go below 20 psi residual ????

Look at the definition of FIRE FLOW. It specifically requires the fire flow be calculated at a residual pressure of 20 PSIG (1.38 bar).

Yeah. The tables in Appendix B are flows at 20 psi. I agree with Stookey that 300 gpm seems very low for a warehouse, unless you are just doing Ordinary Hazard Grp II so that storage is 12' or less.
