Florida I-Beam

I am reviewing a technical proposal for a bridge design to use a Florida I-Beam in place of AASHTO beams. I have read FDOT's write up of the benefits of the shape and the FIB seems to provide several advantages over AASHTO beams, specifically span lengths and stability. The information I have is a few years old. Does anyone know of any issues with the FIB since FDOT began to specify it on its projects? How is it being used on FDOT projects (longer spans, larger beam spacings or both) and is it more cost effective than an AASHTO beam? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Have you tried contacting the FDOT structures design office? FDOT has always been helpful when I've contacted them - though I usually talk to the Materials office.

I have not contacted them directly but I have read the manuals and technical write ups.
I'm not sure if they are going to give me the information I need to perform my evaluation as I think it would be somewhat biased.
My overall impression is favorable, but the I want to know if their are challenges with erection, transport and post-construction performance/ maintenance.
I will contact some colleagues in our FLA offices to see if they can give me this information. Thanks again.
