Floating roof tanks pressure relief

Dear all!

I have a doubt regarding if a floating roof tank must have a pressure-vacuum valve or it is not necessary. I mean, usually the roof floats on the liquid surface but if there is a very sudden temperature change or, even worse, if the roof gets blocked anyhow, how is the pressure in the tank keep under allowable limits?

Thank you for any help and sorry if the question is too obvious (I am a bit new)

To protect the tank there are usually circulation vents for an internal floating roof tank. You'll never suck one in if it has API 650 Appendix H circulation vents. The floater has it's own PV vents.

I meant external floating roofs and if during a sudden increase of temperature (i.e external fire) there is a possibility for a very quick vaporization of the contents and an increase in internal pressure which could make necessary to install a pressure relief device.

Thank you

The floating roof should have adequate pressure relief devices, and it should be heavy enough to remain stable for most conditions. If however, there is a water bottom that gets hot enough to boil you could have an uncontrollable and dangerous situation. From just radiant heat of a nearby fire you should be OK. I expect you would be water cooling the tank anyway.
