Hi,

Help forum forum members ! We are having intermittent phase to phase fault on a distribution panel @ 590 V. We could see trace of arcing between the phases on the incoming circuit breaker feeding the common bus in the panel. The circuit breaker was replaced. Before energising, the installation was checked for short circuit and ground fault. The installation was powered and after some couple of hours, the main breaker tripped and arcing was again seen between phases. This installation, as it is now, was operating well before.
I understand that phase to phase fault is common if dirt or moisture is present between the phase but this is not the case.
Any advice welcome.

Can you explain what you mean by "the installation was checked"?

How?
What test voltages?
What were the test results?

Has anyone done an insulation resistance test (megger) on the panel?

What Keith said.

Thanks for the replies. Keith, I will try to get pictures. Yes, the panel was meggered @ 1000 V before energising.

It may be an arcing ground fault anywhere on the 590 volt circuit, ahead or after the CB.
