Dear Experts
What is a TEMA flange and how it is different from a standard ASME B16.5/16.47 flange.

The TEMA flange is most likely the word 'flange' mentioned some 20 times in the TEMA code. It has no distinguishing features and can be easily confused with other pressure vessel girth flages or 'standard' flanges. I don't believe there is any diference between a standard B16.5/B16.47 flange called up in TEMA and the ASME B16.5/B16.47 flanges.
I suspect that 'TEMA flange' is a technical slang used in some circles, outside the English Technical Dictionary.

Not familiar with TEMA but are there by any chance design rules for flanges in the TEMA standard that might be different from the design rules in ASME Section VIII that might then result in slightly different dimensions that result in the reference to a "TEMA flange" as opposed an an "ASME flange" based on the design criteria used ?

ACTUALLY, in the old days, TEMA had a line of standard design flanges, with pressure / temperature ratings. They were intended for use, I believe, as heat exchanger body flanges, back when flange design was a big deal.

They can be found in Ladish catalog #55, which has recently become available in electronic format. They can also be found in the older TEMA books, like maybe 5th ed.

Heat exchanger body flanges are sometimes still generically called TEMA flanges.
