Flange Thickness for Aquatics (Waterpark) Products

I am on contract to design some flanges for an aquatics product which will be used in water parks.

I am currently utilizing the ASME Class 150 flange size and a pressure rating of 50psi on all flanges. Our competitors use 0.25" thick flanges on many of the pipe sizes, yet BVPC specifies a nearly 0.6" flange for the same size and pressure rating.

Is there an alternative way to design the flange thickness or different standards that I can use. The aquatics environment is not very regulated from my understanding, and using the ASME requirements will keep our cost from being competitive.

Please advise. I can provide more details as needed.
 
## Update: I already ran the calculations using BVPC VIII I Appendix II
 
Asme class 150 is overkill for 50 psi.

Try en 1092 PN rated flanges. PN 2.5 might be a bit low but PN 6 would be more than adequate.

Or try your local water system e.g. AWWA

Also see what flanges the PE pipe suppliers use.
