I was unable to find this topic clarified in previous posts. Which table should we use for a dual certified 316/316L flange? Table 2-2.2 or Table 2-2.3 of ASME B16.5?

Table 2-2.2 may be used, provided the flange is dual stamped ASTM A 182. Refer to e.g. II-D, app. 7.

Thanks XL85NL, I was hoping for a solid ammunition against a recalcitrant Client who simply asked 'Convince me' which table to use. I'll have to beat him up, no other way.
Cheers,

We've had these discussions in the past. It seems now most people are aware of the fact of dual-certification and how to get around it.
If you really need to convince him, tell him '316' is in the designation '316/316L'. He cant ignore that.
Otherwise, draw a picture of the chemical range of elements in 316 and 316L, show the overlap, and explain why you can benefit from the 'stronger 316', and chemically more attractive L-grade 316L.

Thanks again, It's actually the Client who needs convertion. He's willing, but plays the timid virgin...
Cheers,
