I am trying to investigate the flange prying action of a 6061-T6 I8X6.18 beam caused by a girder suspension clamp.
This I can do with a steel beam, but that assumes plastic hinges can form. The problem is that the Alumiunm Association has yet to establish criteria for classifying sections capable of forming plastic hinges, but I understand the Eurocode 9, Annex G does. Does anyone know if this section can develop a plastic hinge, or if there is a different method to analyize this problem.
Thank You - Paul Serkosky

Alcan - Strength of Aluminum has width/thickness ratios well documented which should help.
