Could someone explain to me what is a flameproof, explosion proof and a non sparking motor.

How is each motor manufactured for the conditions above.

Thanks for the help.

Flameproof motors are massively constructed and are designed to contain an internal explosion long enough for the gases generated by the explosion to escape through narrow, carefully designed and toleranced, flamepaths which cool the gases as they are released to a temperature at which they are harmless.

Explosion-proof motors are flameproof motors but made in the US rather than the UK. Same technology, different name.

Non-sparking motors are designed have minimal risk of generating a spark, through careful design and choice of materials.

It should be noted that these are often times two diffrent motors from the manufactuer, and as such are not interchangable.

Before using one of the other carefully review your site conditions and code requirments for your local area. Also speak with teh applications group for the motor supplier, they typicall have decent information.
