fixed and mated parts

Hi all,
Can anyone commment on fixed versus mated parts in assemblies with regard to performance? I am in process of testing this but has anyone have any experiences. Thanks

I'm not sure about overall performance, but there are some issues that you may run into regarding fixed parts versus mated parts. First of all, if you try to toggle between a part being fixed and mated in place you will confuse the hell out of SW, and you'll probably get a lot of overdefining error messages even if your assy isn't overdefined. Also, you may run into issues with flexible subassemblies.

Fixed parts will give you better performance over mated parts as SW doesn't has to evaluate the mates on assembly rebuild. But you will have other issues like moving a part to other location, flexible sub-assemblies, motion, etc.

I opened an assembly and timed it. I then deleted all mates and fixed everything in place. While the file size did decrease, the time to open stayed about the same?
Need to research more, I'm a bit confused . I assumed there would be a load time difference.
