Hi.
We have a new tank, 50000Bbls, 28,6m diameter, whose 4th course presents deformation o the plate to the inside. Tank has wind girder, course thickness is 6mm. The tank is built from the top-down. The tank now has all its 5 courses complete. The tank will have an IFR.
The reasons for deformation are not entirely clear, the most likely cause they say is that they built the fifth course, then the wind girder and then the 4th course, but they should have instead built the fifth and fourth courses and then the wind girder. There are more causes, like weld repairs (overheating). Whatever.
The builders are asking permission to put an stiffener in the 4th course and that´s it (they obviously will make that jusfication and promise the will make the repair at their cost). But the final client wants a fitness for service analysis made. What do you think? Thanks
