There are a number of UL Listed branch outlet fittings (also called mechanical tees) on the market. These include a threaded outlet fitting connected to a "U"-bolt. These can be used in lieu of weldolets or other types of branch outlet fittings available on the market. In order to install the fitting a hole saw is used to drill a hole in the pipe. The fitting is inserted into the hole, the u-bolt installed and torqued. The sprinkler head is then threaded into onto the fitting.

Are these types of installations generally reliable?

How do I go about finding if these types of fitings have a good track record, or are prone to failures?

Any assistance would be appreciated.
