I am evaluating a 6'L by 4'W by 4'H Lube oil reservior on a centrifugal compressor. The existing unit has a 3" open vent to atmosphere. The estimated pressure rating is 4"-wc. The fluid boiling point is about 650-F. Using API-2000 equations for Fire, an 8" open vent is needed. The client says API-2000 only applies to cylinder tanks. Instead, the reservior is govenered by API-617 and the only requirement is a 2" open vent (external fire not a concern. By memory, I have seen about a dozen of these rectangular reserviors and none have very large vents. Is there any technical reason to exclude these equipment from Fire overpressure
