Fire Hydrant

i have a situation where the school that im designing fire protection wet system standpipe have a large space in the middle (courtyard, where the children play after school) im wondering if i can put fire hydrant in the courtyard since the buildings to be protected surround the courtyard. thanks

You can...it may be hard to get piping there. You could also consider a wall hydrant if the AHJ will accept it. I have been required to provide those on projects in the past that were similar to what you describe.

I understand different places use different terms for the same thing.

I take you use wet system standpipe to mean fire sprinkler system.

Is a fire hydrant, to you, something in the ground a fire truck attaches to??
Or a connection for a fire hose?? As would be found in a stairwell.


If fire hydrant in the ground, not much use, since a fire truck cannot get into the court area.

And make sure that the fire hydrant is protected from motorized traffic in the like of a snow plow.
