I would like a little guidance from the experts here. I am not too familiar with fire alarms but I would like to start preparing for my first NICET test in alarms ever.

I know that it is not the intent of the NFPA 25 to identify installations flaws. My questions is: Does the same philosophy applies to NFPA 72

Does anyone use the maintenance regimes in NFPA 72? They seems very ownerous. All detectors to be individually tested over a 5 year interval and you need record which detectors have been tested, keep this record for 5 years and make sure you test all of them, then start again.

Do testing contractors do all this?

Assuming your are refering to the requirement to perform a sensitivity test on smokes, we do. The state FMs we work with allow us to do 20% per year. I have decided less than 20 smokes, we test all of smokes every 5 years and over 20 smokes, we test 20% per year.
