I'm reviewing a drawing for our graphics department and would like to know if I should reference the cadmium plating finish requirement for a 4130 steel part under MIL-STD-171 or AMS-QQ-P-416A?

AMS-QQ-P-416 is more current, and I think supercedes the MIL-STD. Don't forget to identify Type and Class.

Have you read faq731-376 to make the best use of Eng-Tips Forums?

Sorry, I just happened to see that thing about Cadmium plating.

I thought that Cd has been banned for quite some time. Shouldn't it be replaced with something more friendly?

Probably should be, but most steel aircraft bushings are still Cad Plated.
Select the latest Specification.
However, most Platers will still sign off the plating process to the old QQ-P-416, (ty,cl)
