Would you guys recommend the use of fin fan air coolers above lube oil skids, assuming the restrained footprint on the plant does not allow them to be in any other location

How high is "above" and what is the potential risk for fire from the lube oil skids?

Hi, its about 15m above, and the lube oil is normal enviro friendly lube oil...

Sorry I should have said 15ft

Essex57,

I don't see a real problem with it. However, maintenance might be a headache since access to the fan(s) and motor(s) might be difficult. Also, supports need to be adequate for the expected wind load.

Regards,

Speco

to supplement speco comments and not knowing about LO system installation . . . be sure that the distance does not impede operation of lube oil pump/system as a whole. the pipe resistance (max deltaP across cooler + piping) needs to be within system allowances. Also consider start-up and any post-lube oil requirements situations.

hope this helps . . .

You might also want to consider if the lube oil cooler is in a building or not. Depending on what the heat rejection rate is, things can get a bit toasty in the summer.
