Files made by Education version

I have a question, is there a way to get part files (.prt) made from ProE 2000i2 Education Version work in ProE 2001 "real version" ?

The educational version of Pro/E is set up to specifically disallow the use of its files with the commercial Pro/E version. Having said that, the educational version does allow for the conversion of .prt and .asm files into other formats, such as IGES. Where you take those converted files, I guess, is up to you.

 

Thanks, So I can convert the files in Education version to other formats and then load it in the Commercial version?
but how do I convert the files to IGES for an example.
It would be nice if it worked so I don't need to do the work two times.

The IGES conversion works, however keep in mind that the imported IGES file is a 'dumb solid' - that is, you can't modify any existing geometry. Addition of features is generally doable, but sometimes questionable depending on your desired references.

Bottom line is that if you choose to go this route, you are creating a snapshot of the model in that particular state. So, it's usually only beneficial if you do ALL of the design work for a part on one or the other, then export it after you are done and sure that you aren't going to need to change it any more.

To convert a file to IGES. (International Graphics Exchange Software) or something like that.

While your *.prt file is in session- You'll select "File" from your pulldown menu, then select "Model". Now you should be able to see the export menu. Select "IGES" and follow the remainder prompts. One thing that you will discover is- those IGES files converted to 1 solid feature and can become very large file sizes too.

This process is also used to view newer Pro/e version files than what's currently loaded on your machine.

Ex: your machine has Pro/e 2000i2 but you received a 2001 IGES version file.
