I am looking into different methods of creating features to see which method is better from a file size standpoint. If I bring up a file, save it immediately and then close the file. When I check the file size it has increased. It does this every time. Why?

Thanks,

Mike

File sizes will vary, often unpredictably.

Consider that a SW file is actually a database with all kinds of information: features, configurations, model, properties, preview bitmaps, and more. There is also some information stored that is not readily avaiable to the user, such as conversion history. Some addins also write information to the file.

As a result, if you open a file, make no changes, and save, you will get a file size change.

You can reduce file size considerably by using EcoSqueeze by EcoCom. It is not officially supported by SW, but it has worked well for us with no problems so far.
