File Load Failure Dialog 2

This dialog box pops up when I open an assembly telling me that certain files cannot be found. The assembly and parts came from an outside source so I cannot duplicate the folder structure. Short of putting all the files in the same folder, how do I re-associate the new folder locations to the assembly?

Hi,

putting all received files in one folder (without subfolders)
should work. You have to open and save the asm(s) and SE will
update the path to the parts/asm by first looking into the
current folder to find any items. Those items SE can't find
there will be flagged as missing.
When there are any drafts the procedure is different:
you have to open them and then go to Edit --> Links --> select
the missing item and press update source and look for it. The
other method is: open the draft in RevisionManager and change
it there.

So it may be the case that you've indeed not gotten all files
that belong to the assemblies. Most likely standard parts that
are stored elsewhere and have been forgotten.

When you've received the whole bunch as a .zip and the path
for the parts have been recorded just unzip them into an empty
folder or when *all* files are within one (main) folder with
subfolders unzip to any suitable drive but in any case the option
'use folder names' must be checked

Thanks for the reply. I was hoping there was a easier way than moving the files to the same folder. There are over 22,000 files scattered over 1,000 folders that I would have to move (I believe the files were uploaded from a ftp site). I do not need all of them for what I am working on as they are from several different projects and some are drawings.

when the original pathes are not available and thus you have to
put all the files into one folder be on your guard: there might be
duplicate names. That is

original ...\abc\def\Part1.par and ...\abc\xyz\Part1.par

one will be overwritten but the parts might not be the
same which will lead to surprising results afterwards!

To correctly handle this situation is nearly impossible, for
you don't know which is which and belongs to what asm

You could set up your link management file to point to the top level directory where the 22,000 files are scattered within. Searching for, and resolving, the links will be automatic, but slow. Once you save the top level assembly, the links will be corrected and open times will return to normal.

when there is a top folder then it should be no problem to
maintain the original file structure (except for the amount
of data to move and the free space on disk). Just move or
download the top level folder with all files and subfolders
therein onto a disk with enough free space (but maintain
the file structure). That should do

Instead of Edit Links you may be able to make use of Revision Manager.

KENAT, probably the least qualified checker you'll ever meet...

Swertel & Donyoung have provided the 2 best solutions.
If you maintain the folder structure from top-level down then you should be OK.
Setting the Link Management file is the other option, but as stated, the opening time for first pass will be quite long (depending on your system spec).
What I think swertel missed was to remove the reference to the Link Management file after you have saved everything, otherwise it will keep repeating the exercise.
(I saw this happening at a clients site.)

Took me a while, link management file is in SE help as Link Mgmt File with the main help found under "Opening and Saving Solid Edge Docuemnts". Thanks for everyones help and a start for swertel.

Hi everyone,
Just a note here on using the Link Management file.
We are finding that saving assemblies when the link management file is active does not always save the new paths to the parts.
It seems to remember until Solid Edge is closed, then if you restart Solid Edge and open the assembly, the parts are again 'not found'.
We have had to use Revision Manager to save the assembly with the new paths.
The Link Management file seems to be OK for TEMPORARY changes to file paths, but not to permanently change them.

So far I have not seen your problem of "not always" but I believe I have not gone any deeper than top level. I have a larger assemlby that goes at least two levels deep. I will try that one and post my results.

From my further experimentation, I discovered that only broken links in the current assembly are fixed when you save. Any broken links in assemblies under the current assembly are not fixed unless you open those assemblies and save. This continues down to as many assemblies inside assemblies you have. Guess I still have not solved my problem completely. I will have to take a look at revision manager.

Hi,

when you open/save an asm SE will resolve the links. But this will
only be done only for the current asm not for any subasm this is WAD.
To open all assemblies in one or more folders you may also consider
to use the OpenSave
macro: C:\Program Files\Solid Edge Vxx\Custom\OpenSave

Just specify the topmost folder and activate the option to include
the subfolders as well
