Just looking for some comments and recommendations from
people with experience in designing sports fields. We
are going to design new sports fields for all schools in
our district...I would like all info from those who have
experience on what should be considered during design,
what they may have had problems with, and etc.

Thanx a bunch

I nearly had to sit on a Facilities Director to get enough crown on a football field. I recommended 24" and compromised at 20", after a lively debate. Afterward he could not believe it was 20' because it didn't look like it.
Acquire the Official field dimensions from the governing sports authority such as the state high school athletic organization.

The final sentence from jimbo cannot be overemphasized. I believe that far too many projects are improperly designed and constructed as the initial requirements are too stringent.

Drainage, both surface and subsurface, must be very carefully considered.

the fact that turf and concrete/asphalt/compacted gravelled surfaces have exactly opposite reactions to irrigation water seems to elude most designers.
Longterm maintainence seems to revolve around the turf, with very little consideration to the concrete/asphalt/compacted gravelled surfaces.
