Hello,
In repair of parts of fired heaters, what are the recommended field testing activities in coils (radiant and convection coils), refractory, casing, stacks, etc, after its repairs ? Or, where can i found information about it?
In the US it would help to get hold of a copy on the National Board Inspection Code manual ans the ASME code book. These will tell what can and can’t be repaired and the testing requirements. Key point is to always confer with the Authorized Inspector prior to any work on a boiler or fire heater. Let him tell you he’s not involved. Also he can be a great source of information.
I’ve never seen a good reference to the inspection or quality of refractories that would be of any help. Experience gets very handy in inspecting refractories. Along with a digital camera.
Get a copy of your local jurisdictional codes and requirements.
Internal repairs and inspection is requires some special knowledge of boilers and corrosion. There are books and a lot of the insurance carriers and water treatment chemical companies have informative literature.
Always check prior to working on a pressure containing part.
This is very important!
