Hi

I have some problems with solids. When I import a solid or I create a primitive one and then I try to slice it, the solid becomes made by some lines and one of the two parts is arbitrarily deleted and in the messages box appear a list of "Surface XX has no facets".

The solids seem not to have a real volume but made by a sort of solid sheet still from the beginning, Femap is not able to calculate the mass Properties of the solids, I have tried with any type of files, also with the Example files and with those generated by Geometry:solids:primitives...

A warning message appear "Unable to compute mass properties"

Have Anyone of you ever met these kind of problems Do someone knows the reason and the solution?

Dear Firema,
Please check your FEMAP configuration at "File > Preferences > Geometry", you can visit my website at Make sure to select GEOMETRY ENGINE = PARASOLID, as well as the default LENGTH units to use with FEMAP.

I never had problems like you mention importing solids, if you import "really" a solid (not a collection of surfaces) you will be able to slice for sure.
Make sure the [bACTIVE DEFAULT LAYER IS VISIBLE[/b], this is a common error to split any geometry based in a layer that is hidden!!. If everything is OK feel free to upload any solid here and we will take a look to it -- thanks!.

Best regards,
Blas.

Dear Firema,
The FEMAP model comes without any "facet". If I run "Geometry > Solid > CleanUp" setting ON the options you will arrived to a stitched body of ONLY surfaces.

Solid Cleanup
1 Solid(s) Selected...
Found Sliver Surface ID - 31
Stitching with tolerance - 0.000110
Created New Solid 16, Deleting Original Solid 1.
Solid 16 passes Geometry Checking

If I import the PARASOLID file provided in a new FEMAP model and perform "Geometry > Solid > Slice" and specify the plane for intersection using the default method of selecting three points (you can use for instance Method=Global Plane and pick any point -- remember SNAP=Point) the the slicing is done perfectly, then is the procedure you are using that cause the problem.

REMEMBER: you don't need to define any surface to split the solid model, simply use three points (remember to do RMB on screen and select SNAP TO POINT"), or more simply click on METHODs and select "gLOBAL pLANE" -- enjoy!.

Best regards,
Blas.
