I am new in this forum and I have an important question for which I am searching for an answer.

I am working with Femap 10.02. Normally I create groups to structure my model, but if I use the command "renumber" all group contents are destroyed. So my question is: Is it possible to avoid this phenomenon. I'm searching for such a command which realise the following: All group contents (elements, nodes etc.) should also be renumbered, if entities are renumbered (But this command should not only be valid for one group).

Thanking you in anticipation

you can select nodes to renumber by group. it's 50/50 where this'll still remove them from the group ... i think the group is defined as the original node numbers and may not refresh to the new ones. mind you you can easily reselect the nodes for the group (being on the elements in the group ... add nodes to group, nodes on elements, elements defined by group selection).

renumbering nodes by groups, you'll have to index them well away from your existing nodes

Thanks for your fast answer. Of course, it is easy to reselect the nodes for the group, but if you have more than 30 groups it is getting on my nerves. I am still searching for a solution to renumber nodes/elements etc. in my model and all nodes/elements etc. in my groups are also automatically renumbered.

just did exactly that ... modify, renumber, nodes, select by group, starting id#, and "make it so". checked the group, had the new node numbers in it.

I think, I've got it. The problem were two things. On the one hand you have to evaluate the groups. Otherwise you do not see the renumbered nodes. On the other hand you have to keep in mind that node numbers which are occupied can not be used for the renumbering. Thanks a lot for your help. Best regards

a method to overcome this problem is to make sure you have all elements of choice in your group before renumbering. Then, after renumbering your nodes, discard all nodes from that group, leaving only the elements. Then select all nodes_on_elements (elements in the group) to add the nodes back into the group. works for all items, provided you have something to refer to.

Yes, I know this way, but in my case with more than 30 groups it is very time consuming because I have to do this procedure several time due to the fact that other api programs need fixed node Ids.
Thanks for your answer. I think the way I described above is ok.

Hi

A thought: If you have somthing that is basically a repetition of keystrokes one option might be to use the "Program file" and record the keystrokes once. Then you can just run the file and do something more fun while the computer does the typing.
