I primarly used hypermesh (pre-post), optistruct (linear solver and optimizer) and LSdyna (explicit) in automotive industry. Now we have some aerospace products to be analysed. I was impressed by fellow members in this forum about the capability of NEiNastran for the price. As we already have hypermesh, is it necessary to have FEMAP that come along NEiNastran? We can reduce the price, if we skip FEMAP. Hypermesh is a great tool in generationg very comples models with high quality elements. I do not know about FEMAP. Is FEMAP compulsary required to build the complex NASTRAN decks involving advanced analysis? How Hypermesh and FEMAP stand in supporting NASTRAN for advanced analysis in NASTRAN, particularly with composite materials? Thanks..

Hi Rinos

Both FEMAP and Hypermesh work fine with NEiNastran. FEMAP I know works, Hypermesh I have heard (I don't have it).

And if you buy NEiNastran there is no requirement for using FEMAP. There are functions in the interface specifically for NEiNastran but you can get the same functionality by "hacking" the bulk data. It can be difficult but should be possible. Or mayby Hypermesh can do it just as good as FEMAP.

When you buy NEiNastran with FEMAP I think Noran will give you FEMAP for a good price. But if you don't plan to use it I don't see any reason to buy it. But that's just my opinion.

As for composites, somebody else might be able to answer that part of the question.

Good Luck

Thomas
