Good Evening,
I have a local steel and iron company that will be installing a faux - pot belly - wrought iron balcony railing over an existing full height second story window (twin 36"x80" fixed window), please refer to the image below. I am being told by the company that because the single piece of wrought iron will protrude over 3" away from the edge of exterior wall (brick veneer), I (the engineer) am responsible for designing the connection between the railing and the existing wall.

I am having difficulty finding the appropriate prescribed code for such a situation. How I would approach the connection design would be primarily weight based (a glorified structural bracket connection, with flat faced studs and the appropriate bolt pattern) and see negligible wind force (both uplift and lateral). Am I wrong in this assumption ? Has anyone had any experience with designing the connection for a faux balcony such as this? Any advice / tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

That doesn't make much sense... looking at the design of it, it appears that most of it is more than 3" away from the wall. I seem to recall that part of consumer law requires that a product is 'fit of purpose' and I would suggest that this fails unless they can offer some means of safely securing it.

Rather than think climate change and the corona virus as science, think of it as the wrath of God. Feel any better?
