I am working on a project for transmitting line faults/errors to a marquee. The line controller is an AB control logix, and the marquee is owned by an independant "watch dog" system. In the past, we've used text messaging over Profibus. Logic in the PLC will pass a code to the HMI. This code is then referenced by a text file, and displayed on the marquee (e.g. E Stop pressed - PLC sends numeric value 1000 - referenced in the text file as "E Stop section 2", and that data is sent to the marquee).
Delema... What would be the best way of interfacing the PLC to the PC? The PLC doen't have an available slot for a profi card.
The distance from PLC to PC is over 200 feet... RS-422 is an option. I also have Ethernet ports available on my private backbone.
You comments are greatly appreciated.
