i have 3 parts. 1 is a long tube with a hole in the middle. then i have 2 endplates, 1 at each end of the tube. i have put a hole in each endplate. and i want to put a screw to join each endplate to the tube.

when i go to populate smart fastner it only does 1 end. when i try to add the other manually it doesn't let me.

help, i am stuck!

Done that. i realised that.
as i wrote, it will ONLY put a fastner at ONE end... i.e. it works... just not the way i want.

if i remove any plate it is happy to populate the other plate with fastners... so i know both holes work. just with a plate at each end it ignores one of them!

i have tried a few methods to fix but none have worked. i have told the screw hole only to be say 10mm deep as i only want a 10mm screw in each end. (picture the middle part to be say 200mm long for instance. and each plate say 2mm thick)

it has to be something to do with the fastners lining up! try it. you aren't able to put a screw in both ends!

i have tried it a different way. still no luck.

take 2 discs say 100mm apart say 2mm thick each. a countersunk hole in each disc. mate the holes as concentric.

now use fastneres to populate all. it only does 1.

How are the screw holes created? Separate or mirrored? In the part or in-context of the assy? Are the end plates the same part or different? Just want to clarify so I can try to duplicate the problem.

i have tried all of the above.
the holes are same type. in the original the 2 endplates were unique i.e. completeley separate parts. but even in my basic example i used to test the problem i just used 2 of the same discs and still same problem.

i also tried putting the holes in contect of the assembly but same result.

the issue is something to do with the 2 holes lining up. as i can get fastners in each ONLY when they do not allign.

i have tried with the middle part having holes using the wizard and with just a cut. have tried with the long central part with a 50mm hole cutting through each way. all with same result.

actually if i cut a hole in the middle part say only 10mm on both sides it works the way i require. but i need a hole that goes all the way. so it doesn't fix my problem.

really weird this! hope it makes sence.

phathag,
Try this, in your end plate. Instead of your hole going all the way through set the depth to 18mm. Just guessing here.

thanks but had tried that, no such luck even though in theory it should make sence.

i have been using basic parts to replicate it and with the basic parts it looks like adding the holes once the assembly is complete is the way to go. not on the parts first.

but when i tried this on the proper design it still failed.

cannot beleive how much time is wasted on such a little thing!

well i seem to have found a work around. but if anyone can tell me a better meathod in creating the holes or editing the fastners so i can add them all that would be great.

first i needed to enter the holes on each plate in the assembly (thanks for reminding me about this ctopher)

as i am entering the holes and because it is an assembly i ticked the box "enter fastner" to each set of holes individually. and it worked!

it doesnt work if u do not click that box as you are creating the holes in the assembly before you enter any other fastners.
so you cannot do some holes then use smart fastner to add a screw then later create a new hole and tick the "add smart fastner" as you are placing the hole. (when the 2 fastners are concentric at opposite ends)

it did however do something else which i do not desire and might be a bug, but i might put it on a separate post.
