Is there an easy way to find out what family template a part came from? Some simple like info. I know that if the part is in an assembly NX will look for the template file.

Just select the Component Part (the Family Member) while in the Assembly, press MB3, select 'Properties', select the 'General' tab and then select the 'Info' icon [!]. In the first group of items in the report there will be a line which states 'Family Member of:' and then will provide the complete path name to the Family Master used to create the Family Member.

There is one more trick:
Open the Family Member. Goto Tools->Part Families...
A message will be displayed, including file name & path of the Tamplate Part!
