Dear members,
Based on F331.1 in ASME B31.3, the minimum tempering temperature of some low alloys in ASTM is lower than the heat treatment temperature listed in Table 331.1.1 in ASME B31.3. It means that the heat treatment at site may give any adverse effect to some low alloy items.
(i.e. A182-F11)
My understanding is that Appendix F in ASME B31.3 is not a mandatory requirement but guidance only as indicated in Table 300.4 in ASME B31.3. Therefore I think that contractor does not have to apply unless required in project contract document.
However some clients insist that F331.1 shall apply because of Note (2) in Table 300.4 in ASME B31.3, which says "(2) Contains no requirements but Code user is responsible for considering applicable items.".
I welcome any opinions from you.......
