F.E. exam

I am planning to take the F.E. exam neXt October. any recommendations regarding the materials? any online free review sessions?

From what I can recall we could only use the FE manual provided to us for the exam. I took mine the last year before graduation and we were required to take a review class that covered all the civil items. The campus library had videos that reviewed all the non civil items. Check out your local university library for similar materials.

I just took it in April,

Nothing on it was really "hard" its just a lot of stuff to know!

I took a class with the SPE -society for Pro Eng's- and used,

F E Review Manual: Rapid Preparation for the General Fundamentals of Engineering Exam
Author: Michael R. Lindeburg

and study the crap out of the "reference book"

Then Just take the General Exam.

If you do use the Lindeburg book, it is much harder then the actual exam, so when you take the exam its not to bad.

No way, if you are a civil student, take the civil afternoon portion, there is only general morning. Honestly, the test isnt that hard... but, you need to review pretty much any class that you have taken that you feel is engineering related. The afternoon general would be very hard for a civil student with no mechanical classes.
if you want, get the FE review manual mentioned above, i got it and the practice tests help...with knowledge and learning the pace you need to keep.

I highly agree/recommend getting the 'reference book' ahead of time and reviewing it..knowing where certain information is. I was the only person in my class to have used it before we took the test and seemed to be the only one not confused by the layout of it...

Make sure you have a calculator on the approved devices list (

http://www.ncees.org/exams/fundamentals/

). If not get one early and get use to it. Not being able to use my HP I have had for 20 years made the PE tougher for me.

I agree with everyone here. I graduated Clemson in the fall and we have a 92% pass rate on the FE. It doesn't hurt that the NCEES offices are down the street and are comprised of a number of Clemson Profs.

The three best pieces of advice I can give you are:

1. Know the reference book and tables
2. Know the approved calculator and how to use it efficiently
3. Do what you know first and come back to the other portions. The test is scored evenly so easy or hard doesn't matter, just get it right and finish as much as possible.

As far as what portion to take I took the Mechanical Section (being an ME it fits) but there was another broad based section I could have taken.

Study materials are simple. Look at the book summery in the back of every engineering class book you had.
