Extruding a spiral

How do I create a boss feature by extruding a spiral? I can't seem to be able to create a closed sketch from a spiral.

I'm having difficulty visualising what you mean. By definition, a spiral is not closed.

Are you trying to make a shape similar to a watchspring? If so, here's two possible approaches:

1.) Make a thin-wall extrusion (the box in the Extrude interface should be automatically checked if your sketch isn't closed)

2.) Use the spiral to make a sweep. To draw the sweep section, create a plane "Normal to curve" using the spiral endpoint and curve.

Right, this would need to be a "thin feature" with a thickness of some sort offset from your spiral sketch. To make it work, you need to make sure your thickness doesn't interfere with (touch) itself as it is being extruded within the thin feature. Help files have more details on how this works.

Yes. I realized this last night on my way home, cursing myself for this stupid question. I was exhausted when i asked..

Thank you for the response. The model is done. I used the spiral as a guide to create a sweep
