External Threads

I'm a recent convert fron Solid Edge and I've been pulling my hair out over this.

In SE making an external thread is very simple. You extrude a boss and then use a thread comand. I have seen some people explaining how to do the revolved cut to make threads but that doesn't seem to do what I need.

I like how the fancy threads look but they are very much overkill for me. All I want is an external thread so when the part goes to drafting they give it a dimension, just like the internal ones, and all the info is there.

True threads are Memory hogs. The more you get, the worse the performance. I would suggest you either make fake threads with a cut-revolve that is linear patterned... or add a Cosmetic thread at the part or drawing stage. Doing it like that. You make the part at the maximum diameter and when you insert the Cosmetic thread. It will ask you for the Minor Diameter of the the thread. You can also insert the Thread callout as well.

2. Go to Insert, Annotations, Cosmetic Thread.
