Hello

I have a vessel to be designed for a external design temperature of 485 deg C( for some extreme case) I had chosen P11 as my Material of construction. For CS-2 chart the maximum allowed is 480 deg C. PV Elite shows the warning for the same. Please advise how to proceed for External design condition.

Lower design temp or pick another material.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

Hello
@PV_design_Engr
You probably mean "a vessel to be designed for an external pressure considering design temperature = 485°C".
Without an external pressure, you can design pressure vessel with (external ?) design temperature above 480°C (up to 649°C if I remember well).
I agree with SnTMan, the easiest would be to have design temperature within CS-2 tables when designing for an external pressure.
Maybe it would be possible (but difficult) to operate at a higher temperature following ASME II-D rules for new materials (i.e. have the CS-2 graph extended to higher temperatures after testing and taking into account dimensionnal changes due to creep).
Regards
