Friends,
I am interested in providing a extended transverse fins for a small piece of straight piping on my sealing fluid return line in one of my pumps which has no provision of cooling the hot return fluid. Since we have no cooling water as a utility we are planning to provide fins on the pipe surface. I would like to know how to go about arriving at the heat transfer area and the calculations for fins.essentially fin dia and no of fins, typical MOCof fins etc. If anyone coyuld refer a good book or calculatuion steps that would be fine.

Dear friend,
Please refer the following book, which gives all the extended surface design in detail.

Title: Extended surface heat transfer
Author:KERN, D Q and KRAUS, A D
Pub. Date:1972
Publisher:McGraw-Hill Book Company

If you do a websearch, you should find several on-line or downloadable heat exchanger calculators that could used for this.
