We have RTU's with Gas Heat and a significant gas piping to the RTU's are exposed. Do we need to insulate or weatherproof the piping like we need to weatherproof the exposed ductwork?

What does RTU stand for? and what do you mean by significant gas piping?

I have seen a lot of bare, black colored, gas lines on roofs to combination gas fired heaters and AC units.

Montoy,

I agree with chicopee, we don't typically treat exposed black steel gas piping in my area, unless it's visible to the public and the architect wants it painted... Please tell us where the project is.

Good on ya,

RTU - Roof Top Unit.
The Project is located in New Jersey.

Exposed shouldn't be an issue in NJ. If you're worried or it's visible, a good rust preventive paint will do.

Shouldn't be any need to insulate, though.

That's my experience, let's see if any others have had troubles with exposed black pipe...

Good on ya,

Goober Dave
