A client is interested in saving some money on their heavy oil pilot plant and wants to remove the low pressure steam separator. We now dump our condensate to tank and need to subcool it before we depressure. To achieve this our process group wants to run our steam condenser on level control (with a bridle) and add a subcooler. The subcooler is simple enough but we're not used to seeing level controlled condensers in this application. Does anyone have experience using a level control on a steam condenser in heavy oil? Would it be different from power generation where it seems to be common?

Any suggestions and comments are greatly appreciated.
