Does anyone have experience with the performance of coating the OD of carbon steel tubes with teflon for service in heat exchanger that is occasionally exposed to sulfuric acid? I found one reference but wasn't sure if anyone had good/bad excperience with that.
My application is for an olefin chiller for which carbon steel should be adequate in the absence of acid carryover from the acid settlers. I was asked what might be a good upgrade for the tubes and settled on alloy 20. My preference is to fix the process, but if they need an upgrade, alloy 20 is my suggestion. I wasn't sure if the cost of alloy 20 would be a deal breaker though. The chiller typically runs at <60 F.
