hello all,

I am doing a surge analysis on a procss line.
Is the Cv values are different for normal gate valve and expanding gate valve.

Do they behave different at valve closure.

Also Can I use "surge pressure+operating pressure" for max shut off pressure for a valve actuator selection.

Thanks in Advance

Best Regards,

Most likely the Cv values will be different. You should look in the manufacturer's data to see what the Cv value is for each type of valve. You may also need to contact the manufacturer. I would presume that the valves would behave differently at valve closure, but really don't know. Again your best source would be the manufacturer.

You can do some flow tests with different valve opening positions and from the flow under the pressure difference you can calculate the Cv of the valve at various opening position/s
