I started my own, very small, civil engineering and land surveying business 2 years ago. I am licensed in both professions, but mostly do surveying work. I have 5 years of civil engineering experience in road and bridge construction, and I want to expand the engineering side of my business. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments on how I can expand the civil engineering aspect of my business?

I’d look at building on the synergies of the two professions.

Look for opportunities where survey work leads into some engineering work and use your survey work base to be your entry.

For example if you are hired to survey for a road, offer to design the road and supervise the construction, including of course the survey layout.
