We have a transmitter(slg 720) installed in a zone 1. it has a hazardous area rating of Exd[ia] it also has a 4-20ma output. We want to change this signal into enraf bpm so we are installing a converter in a switchroom which is a safe area, this is also rated Exd [ia].my question is does the cable between the two have to be an intrinsically safe cable?

thanks

No. The "ia" bit refers to the electronic device in the Exd housing so for cabling follow Exd rules and not intrinsically safe. Seems OTT to have an Exd housing in a safe area by the way...
