Hi,

I would like to have a SW table in my drawing, but at the same time I would like to have an Excel based one that I can manipulate for other purposes (for example cost estimation, different formatting for reports etc.).

Deos anyone know how I can get both (normally SW doesn't allow for both), or at least copy the whole SW based one in an Excel sheet?

Thx,
Sorin

If you have a SW BOM in a drawing, you cannot also have an Excel based BOM. However you can insert an Excel worksheet as an OLE object & place whatever information you want into it.

Same applies to Revision & Hole tables.

Thanks CorBlimeyLimey,

The thing is I don't want to type in the info in the Object inserted sheet. And I don't want to copy/paste cell by cell. How do you copy the whole SW based table and paste it into the Excel sheet?

Activate (highlight) the BOM & do a Save as a CVS or TXT file. Either of those can be imported into an Excel spreadsheet.

Hi, Sorin:

You can not copy and paste SW based table BOM into an Excel sheet. But you can export it to a file and then open this file via Excel.

SW claims it is a true Window based software program. It is a shame that it created an object that does not allow us to copy and paste.

Ooops ... that should be CSV file.

Alex,

Thanks much, but I must be having another one of those bad days. I can't seem to find a way to export that SW based table to a file (CSV). How do you do it.
It's easy with the Excel based BOM but how do you exactly do it with the SW one?

rgrayclamps ... It is a painful process but you actually you can copy & paste, but only cell by cell. You have to double-click on a cell & will get a "This cell is parametrically linked ... Continue editing the cell?" warning. If you click Accept you are then able to copy the cell contents into the clipboard.
Take note though, that doing this will break the parametric link to the model. The link can be reset by again double-clicking the cell & deleting the contents. The cell will then be parametrically re-linked & the original contents automagically re-inserted.

Right CorBlimeyLimey, but that's why I said I want to avoid this painful process. Like alex said, you would think that by this time they had provided something a little more efficient.

SDO ... click on the clear space immediately above the SW BOM, (so that the blue bar appears) then click File > Save As > Save As Type select either CSV or TXT, type a file name & click Save

Shoot! I did do that, but when I saw the sldbomtbt extension I thought this would only allow to save the BOM template, and didn't bother to check the other extensions.
That will work for now, until they fix this thing.

Thanks Alex, thanks CorBlimeyLimey, I appreciate your support.

You get a star Alex.
