I am unfamiliar with the use of international steel grades. For example can we a European steel grade in the states or does it have to comply to American steel grades?

pretty sure you have to always meet the local codes. If the European steel grade meets or exceeds the codes wherever your building is being built then you're ok. And honestly, are you planning on shipping steel from Europe to the US to build a building? probably not.

Its a custom connection component, not available in the states.

Hi

For the design you will probably (certainly) have to meet the local codes for strength etc. But the steel grade is probably based on an international standard. There are tables available for comparison between different standards. Consult your local standards institute. It's a bit more complicated than a yield strength but not impossible. Weldability (carbon) can sometimes be an issue.

If you can document that the steel meets your specification if should not be a problem. Europe to US should not be a problem.

As for building in Europe and shipping to the US, it happens. I have been involved in a few projects where we designed and built modules i Europe that were assembled to houses in the US. So it is not something that doesn't happen.
