Can someone point me toward a website that defines the European service duty rating? For example, we have a 480 V, 60 Hz, 154 HP motor with an "S1" rating. What kind of operation is this designed to handle (continuous, 125%, etc)? Thanks.

hydrchuck:-duty types and designation as per bs4999
s1 continious running duty.
s2 short time duty type
s3 intermittent periodic duty type
s4 intermittent periodic duty with starting
s5 intermittent periodic duty type with electric braking.
the duty type is normally designated by the abbreviations s1,s2 etc. fot duty types which include a period of starting.
hope this will help.
kind regds.

Teco,
Thanks for the good summary & source reference!
