Hi there,

I am currently working on a North American bridge project for a UK design consultant. As the supplier of the bridge may be from North America or from the UK the material specification needs to spec the equivalent materials for both NA and EU.

Is there a reference document/book that you know of that provides a table or something that shows the equivalent steel plate grades between NA and EU?

I have specified steel grade S355 to BS EN 10025-2:2004 and also specified the equivalent ASTM A 709 or ASTM A 709M. Although it is somewhat easy to provide equivalents based on standard mechanical properties, I am having an issue finding the equivalents based on the toughness and through thickness values.

Just checking if anyone has dealt with this before and could offer some advice.

Cheers

Thanks for providing this information robyengIT, It is very helpful but I am still running into the same issue of not being able to compare the toughness values.

As far as I know and understand (I am retired since 12 years, so a bit obsolete) in EU standards for steel (EN 10025) there is no reference to the toughness but to resilience (impact strength - Charpy test method) other than usual ref to tensile strength, UTS, etc
Here attached You will find a brochure explaining that, but I think that the company WEB site does not exist any more. I have the EN 10025 if You need more info before buying
