Hello, everybody. I am wondering is it by any chance possible to transfer area load from vertical shell element to line load on frames? I know that this is possible for horizontal shells, say, if you assign a 1-way membrane, which will transfer the loads onto the adjoining beams, but I am encountering difficulties when applying the same (or similar) procedure for vertical shells and columns. Thanks in advance.

Are you using shell or membrane designation. I have had a lot of trouble with Etabs automesh for shell designations where the mesh will dis-engage from columns. To counter this I wrote a python script which will mesh shell areas for me. Following this I turn off automesh for floors. It has worked well so far.

Just use shell elements in order to utilize all 6 degrees of freedom. Then frame elements will be loaded accordingly.
