I was asked by a contractor how much area would a ton of DGA cover at a 4" depth? I don't have any experience with DGA, but to me it's more of a mathematical question regarding densities and volumes. It is that simple, or are there formulas for these characteristics associated with DGA?

You have to look at the gradation of the aggregate and the volume of voids which makes it a simple volume calc.

Area = Volume/depth
Volume=weight/density
Density is approximately 145 lbs/cf (dry weight, compacted)

A=2000 lb / (0.33' x 145 pcf) = 40 SF
