Erratic Temp Transmitter

Hello,

I have a temp xmiter that rolls along just fine 99.9% of the time. then in a very erratic way it will indicate a temp that is 100 degrees higher than static temp. Any thoughts on what might be the issue? I'm not finding bare conductors where I can check by hand.

I'm not sure what you're asking. There is no thermal phenomenology that can do that, so it's an electrical problem. Your choice is to replace it or have the manufacturer fix it, given that you haven't even provided a manufactured name or model number.

If the 100° increase value is the same as the upper span value, then the transmitter is going into burn-out condition because it sense an open circuit on the input. An intermittent wire connection, due to a poor crimp or stipped wire ends that are sheared through but electrical continuity is made by cable pressure that is momentarily relieved can cause short term intermittent connections.

I recall one temp transmitter that would fail into burn-out mode when the transmitter body temperature got too high and it overheated.
