I am looking for erosion (not abrasion) resistant steel rod. 1/2 inch diameter would be good. Coal and minerals in 180 degree F 50 mph air stream.

The >> Abrasion << resistant steels are commonly available in plate, but so far seem rare or non-existent in rod/bar.

thanks,

Dan T

Given your limited service conditions, I would try 410 stainless steel rod - Quenched and tempered to 35 HRc hardness.

Stellite 6 might also be an option depending on how it will be attached.

Any other design constraints like weldability, corrosion resistance, etc? Type 410 SS is definitely available in bar/rod. Any aversion to stellite overlays, HVOF coatings, etc?

Threaded (or machined) rod needed? Or just threaded at one end? Will the threads and nuts or threaded hole be exposed also to the eroding agent(s)?

I like HP (High Performance) Alloys in Indiana.

Great tech support.
